Ajax Amsterdam coach Peter Bosz was disappointed by his team’s performance in their 2-0 defeat by Manchester United in Wednesday’s Europa League final, but vowed to learn from United’s physical display and come back stronger.

Jose Mourinho’s more experienced side overpowered Ajax across the 90 minutes, conceding possession but denying their opponents the space they needed to play their passing game.

“Obviously I’m disappointed, because you play finals to win them,” Bosz told a news conference at the Friends Arena.

“We didn’t, and I haven’t seen the Ajax that I’m used to, which means playing good football, high pressing and being dominant.”

Ajax went behind to a deflected Paul Pogba shot in the 18th minute after losing the ball from their own throw-in.

It was an uphill battle after that, made harder when Henrikh Mkhitaryan scored United’s second three minutes after the break.

“If you come 1-0 behind against such an, in defence, well-organised team, it’s going to be difficult, especially the second half,” the 53-year-old Bosz said.

Ajax had no answer to the physical strength and power of United, especially in midfield, where world record signing Pogba and Belgian international Marouane Fellaini dominated.

“I think there’s a big difference in the physical way they (United) play, but its not a matter of strength – it’s how you use your body, which we have to learn,” Bosz said.

“For all the players, this is the first final. For winning finals, you first have to play finals and learn from it. All the players who played today learned a lot, and this is one aspect of the game where they were better than we were.

“They will learn a lot from it and we will become stronger, and if we can keep this squad together we will be stronger next season, for sure,” he added.

With the game played in the shadow of Monday’s bomb attack at a pop concert in Manchester, which left 22 dead and 64 injured, Bosz said his players were influenced by that event.

“We talked about it, and in the media there was a lot going on, so obviously both sides were affected. But once you play that final, I think you will, for that moment, forget it.”

A year to the day after losing the Israeli cup final with Maccabi Tel Aviv, the Ajax coach joked that he intended to talk to the footballing authorities about the date of the final.

“I will ask UEFA and FIFA if they will not play any finals on this date,” he said with a wry smile.

A beautician, identified only as Oby, has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly beating her maid, Miracle, to death on Lateef Aregbe Street, Ago Palace Way, Okota, in the Isolo area of the state.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the mother of two had descended on the eight-year-old on Saturday and beaten her till she collapsed and gave up the ghost.

She was allegedly plotting with some persons to dispose of the corpse when some neighbours raised the alarm and reported the case to the police.

The suspect was subsequently detained at the Isolo Police Division.

A resident of the area, who did not want to be identified, said the suspect had been beating Miracle for months.

He explained that anytime Oby, who hailed from Anambra State, was confronted by neighbours, she would shun and insult them.

He said, “She is a beautician and has two children and she is heavily pregnant with her third child. Her husband was deported from Libya before he travelled again to Angola, where he is now based.

“She brought the victim and another girl by name Chinacherem, from their village in Anambra State some years ago. They were formerly going to school before she stopped them.

“However, anytime I visit their house, she was always beating this particular girl. Whenever people intervened, she would tell them to go away because she brought the girl from the village and it was none of their business.

“She usually maltreated the two girls and would wake them up as early as 4.30am to start working. She beat them for the least provocation.

“Early Saturday, she descended on Miracle again and beat her till she gave up. She called some people to help her in disposing of her corpse. They were about taking the body out when people challenged them. The people she brought quickly ran away.”

The police from the Isolo division were said to have arrested the suspect.

PUNCH Metro was told that the case was also reported to officials of the Lagos State Office of the Public Defender.

An official of the agency, who did not want to be identified, said 12-year-old Chinacherem had been taken away from the community by some family members who didn’t want her to testify against the suspect.

She said, “We gathered that Oby told Chinacherem that when she is queried, she should tell people that she (Chinacherem) and the victim fought and she collapsed and died. After the girl told the crowd that, she quickly added that it was what her madam asked her to say.

“But the woman has confessed to the police that she killed the girl. When we went to the station, we were prevented from talking to her, but they confirmed it was a case of homicide. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba.”

The Director of OPD, Mrs. Olubukola Salami, called for an end to child abuse in Lagos State, urging residents to quickly report such cases before it was too late.

She said the agency would follow the case to ensure justice was served.

She said, “The girl’s life could have been saved if people raised the alarm early enough and that is why we always say if you see something, say something. There is no room for child abuse in Lagos State and we will ensure due diligence is done in this matter.”

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Olarinde Famous-Cole, confirmed the incident, adding that the victim’s corpse had been deposited in the Isolo General Hospital for autopsy.

He said, “The suspect, Obiageli, beat her housemaid, Miracle Edegwu, to death. She was arrested and transferred to the SCIID. The matter is under investigation.”

A Manchester United fan had a creative way to persuade Zlatan Ibrahimovic to stay.

The cheeky banner begged the veteran Swede to stay at the club. It read: “Zlatan, stay and can sh@g my wife”, with a picture of the Swedish striker celebrating one of his many goals for the Red Devils this season. Zlatan’s future is still in doubt with the 35-year-old recovering from a knee injury sustained in the semi-final of this competition against Anderlecht at Old Trafford.

His current contract runs out this summer and he is yet to sign a new deal. The striker is set to be out with his injury for months yet and United fans are waiting to see whether he stays after a successful first season in the Premier League. The former Barcelona and Inter has another year's extension to his contract already on the table.

I have read the rulling in the bail application made on the behalf of Nnamdi kano delivered by Hon Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja. After a careful perusal of the said ruling have noted that the said rulling entered earlier which stipulates that Mr. Kanu must not be seen in a crowd of more than ten persons, should not grant interviews and should not also organise or partake in rallies of any nature. The initial thought that came to my mind was the provisions of section 39 and 40 of the Constitution of the Federal republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) for the sake of clarity of this discourse I hereunder reproduce same.

Section 39: Every person shall be entitled to freedom of expression including freedom to hold opinions and to receive to impart ideas and information without interference.
Section 40: Every person shall be entitled to assembly freely and associate with other persons and in particular he may form or belong to any political party, trade union or any association for the protection of his interests.

Going by the wordings of the said constitution as reproduced above, the inevitable question that arises for determination is whether the said ruling does not violate the fundamental rights of the accused person.

The constitution is the grundnorm and the fon et origo of every other law. This supremacy clause is so fundamental and supersedes the powers of every court in the land. This supremacy principle is further entrenched in section 1 (3) of CFRN I999 (AS AMENDED) as reproduced below;
If any other law is inconsistent with the provision of this constitution, this constitution shall prevail, and that other law shall to the extent of the inconsistency be void.

That ruling as delivered by Binta Nyako J. is a clear violation and infringement of Nnamdi Kanu’s fundamental right to freedom of expression at the press and right to peaceful assembly and association pursuant to section 39 and 40 of the CFRN 1999 (as amended) .

The Supreme Court has advised in C.P.C V Nyako (2011) ALL FWLR pt 587 pt 627-628 ratio 3 cautioned that in the interpretation of legal rights, a broad interpretation which entails a liberal approach or a global view should be employed.

On the sterngth of that advice , I do not doubt the fact that the grant or refusal of an application for bail is wholly at the discretion of the court. But however, it is a clear and trite position of the law that such discretion must be exercised judicially and judiciously.

In NIB investment (West Africa) LFO V G.E (Nig) Ltd (2011) ALL FWLR pt 593 p 2013 ratio 3 ,the court viewed discretion as that equitable decision of what is just and proper under the circumstance or a liberty or privilege to decide and act in accordance with what is fair and equitable under the peculiar case guided by the principles of the law. The court in extending caution to the bench in the exercise of discretion stated in EFCC V Akingbola (20150 ALL FWLR pt 794 pg 139-140 ratio 3;
“Discretion is the power or right to decide or act according to one’s own judgement; freedom of judgement or choice, and when applied to public functionaries like judicial officers, discretion is the power or right conferred upon them by law for acting in certain circumstances, according to the dictates of their own judgement and conscience, uncontrolled by the judgement or conscience of others. It connotes action taken in light or reason as applied to all facts and with a view to the right of all parties while having regards for what is right and equitable under all circumstance and law. Discretion cannot dictate to the law; it is the law that dictates when a court can exercise its discretion, how it can exercise that discretion and what it is allowed to exercise its discretion on”.

I have followed this case carefully with keen interest from the time of the arrest of the accused to the arraignment and subsequent trial. The bail of the accused person had become a subject matter of national discourse among lawyers and non-lawyers alike. Whether the grant of the bail to the accused person is predicated on the grounds of the accused ailing health or the genuine concern of the court to ensure that the accused stays alive to prosecute his matter or as a result of continuous and overwhelming public outcry which paints the image of the present administration in a negative light, what is sacrosanct is that conditions of bail should not offend the law whether it applies to Nnamdi Kanu or anyone.
Regards .

Very many Nigerians have been caught in the discussional web of the president’s health status in recent time. The social media have been inundated daily with series of debates as to the president’s Fitness to continue piloting the affairs of its troubled and ladened one hundred and twenty million and over citizens.

Before I retired to my rest room the previous night, I had read the articulations of many learned authors on this issue objectively like a judge in a non-election petition case going through the pleadings and brief of counsel with a view to drawing an unbiased conclusion.

Even in my dream, I recalled still asking the question “lord why is Nigerian always thrown into political murky waters often and often? But I woke up with no positive reply. Still concerned, troubled and inquisitive, I logged into Facebook and I noticed with keen interest a post by one Abdul Aziz Nyako with the tittle “Mohammadu Buhari-The human being”.

As a hungry factory worker served with his choice meal, I hurriedly devoured the piece over and over again. That author in an attempt at drawing sympathy to the ailing president lifted up the veil of a strong man, army general, politician and president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria from Mr. Mohammadu Buhari to reveal an old stressed up and sick man who is traumatized, languishing in pains, yelling and yearning for survival.

In his words, “…today I tried to look at Mohammadu Buhari with the following questions on my mind, what if he were my father and in this condition, how could I have felt, what if he were my brother, uncle, grandfather or friend...what would I have felt. These questions made me reflect deeply and empathies with him. They made me feel sympathy for him, his family, friends and associates.[sisc]

I did not finish reading the piece when unconsciously tears started rolling down my cheeks but for the intervention of my little boy who came cuddling and extending me a tiny piece of clothing to whip my tears with. By the lad’s show of love and affection, the essence of family was again rekindled in my mind which caused me to have serious pity and compassion on the children and grandchildren of President Mohammadu Buhari whose utmost interest are doomed by the nefarious activities and political bigotry flowing from the pecuniary interest of the cabals.

I was caught in a deep thought and sincere concern for Mr President. “How I wish I were a medical doctor, maybe I would have dedicated myself and service towards finding solution to the ailment of Mr. President” that was my first thought or probably, if I were financially buoyant in the ranks of Otedolas, Adenugas, Akpabios et al, I would have been armed with the needed resources to contact, consult and mobilize Doctor Ben Carson to assemble the best medical team in the world ever to come to the rescue of our dear president. Yet, my financial muscles failed me and I was reminded of the aphorism: “If wishes were horses, beggars too would rode”.
Again I took a second appraisal of Mr. Abdul Nyako’s post and the succeeding comments. They only settled at mere wishes without proffering any positive direction, could it be an oversight on the path of the author to deliberately settle for fate, or was he timid to say the much dreaded truth? I questioned myself.

Even if the later reason afforded that author, it will not avail myself, as some time ago while serving my father land in a faraway Sokoto State, my dear friends and colleagues -Mr Faruk Yunusa, Frederick Ayotunde and Mr. Chibuike Okparagu at Umaru Skinkafi Polytechnic had complimentarily told me “Christian you speak too much truth than necessary in our present world” they stated. I recalled the response I uttered: “I believe in the power of truth and justice as a tool for influencing the world”. We all laughed over it on a bottle of Kunugyida.

Guided by the admonition of our lord Jesus Christ when he stated that whoever hide the fault of others God will hide his fault on the Day of Judgment and whosoever removes the worldly difficulty of his brother, God will remove his difficulty in the Day of Judgment.

On the strength of the above stated instruction, I proceed to champion the removal of the worldly difficulty of our dear president by suggesting his immediate resignation. This is the only way of reducing his stress and saving him from himself.
It has repeatedly been said that when organic causes of illness are unknown, it is tempting to invent psychological explanation. This is not the case of our president. It is evident that stress is the remote cause of Mr. President’s ill health and he needs to rest.

A Canadian scientist Han Selye (1936-1976) in his General Adaptation syndrome (Gas) theory stated and categorized stress in three states –Alarm, Resistance and exhaustion. To buttress this point let’s take this analogy.

Lets say one suffers a physical, environmental or emotional trauma, in the first phase, the person experience an alarm reaction due to the sudden activation of the sympathetic nervous system, the heart rate zooms. Blood is diverted to the skeletal muscle. There is a feeling of faintness of shock with the resources mobilized; one is now ready to fight the challenge during the second phase, resistance. The temperature, blood pressure and respiration remain high. There is a sudden outpouring of hormones. If persistent, as in the Nigerian case where the country is littered with stressors, the stress may eventually deplete the body’s reserves during the third phase, exhaustion. With exhaustion, one is more vulnerable to illness or even, in extreme cases, collapse and death.

Pathetically, this is the unfortunate situation that the president is bedeviled with daily.
Stressors are unavoidable, the fact coupled with the growing awareness that recurring stress correlate with heart disease lowered immunity and other bodily ailments gives us a clear message. If we cannot eliminate stress by changing or ignoring a situation. We had best learn to manage it by confronting or escaping the problem and taking steps to prevent its occurrence.
The kitchen cabinet owes Mr. President a moral obligation to protect his interest and in this instance the interest to stay alive supersedes every other interest. His beneficiaries should know that Mr. President’s grandchildren will not forgive them if they are deprived by the cabals for selfish purposes, their grandfather who would have taken them to cinemas, tell them the Nigerian Civil War stories and his gallant adventures and experiences to motivate them to success in their respective endeavors.

Nobody loves Mr. President more than myself but I am constrained to shield my interest in the wake of superseding family interest.
God bless Nigeria.

Your iPhone is only as good as the case that’s protecting it . And there are no shortage of brilliant cases to choose from.

But we’ve never seen one that doubles as a coffee machine before.

That’s the Kickstarter pipe-dream of a company called Mokase, which is advertising: “the first multi-utility phone cover [that] supplies espresso coffee whenever you want.”

If it can raise £63,300 through crowdfunding, the company says it can turn a smartphone into your own personal pocket Starbucks.

Unfortunately for those that like a latte with their lithium-ion, the Kickstarter campaign appears to have been suspended.

Speaking to International Business Times , the crowdfunding site says that the team behind the concept haven’t been able to produce a prototype that meets their standards.

Mokase’s case involves an integrated heating system that would keep the piping hot coffee at between 50-60 degrees. Moreover, it could heat the liquid up in around eight seconds.

The beans themselves come from small Nespresso-style “wafers” that already contain the liquid coffee. You then just feed one of them into the side of the case and heat it up.

The Italian company doesn’t go into specifics about how it plans to pull off the case. Instead, it just reassures would-be backers with the following:
“The project is in a very advanced phase. We have kept in touch with suppliers, prototyped, tested but the total investment goes beyond our possibility, that’s why we ask your help to complete the undertaking!”

Kickstarter hasn’t ruled out the idea completely and has said that Mokase will be allowed back onto the platform once it establishes a sufficient prototype.

It is so funny that “the one organ in our body that thinks is often the one we think less about.
The brain is an incredibly important body part, as it is one of the biggest one in the body and represents the main control center. It has multiple functions, responsibilities, and tasks, as well as lots of information stored”.
The brain is the most important organ in the body and it is high time we all start pay more attention to its health and welfare.
Below are some habits that harm the brain you might not be aware of:

Not sleeping well, lack of sleep is an habit that significantly hurt your brain. “It affects the hippo-campus which causes a deficit that automatically leads to forgetfulness”.

“Alone time can be great for thinking, reflection and mapping out your dreams and goals but when the solitude is too much it can damage the mind and body, it can typically cause brain decline, affect the quality and efficiency of sleep making it less restorative, erode arteries, create high blood pressure, undermine learning and memory and generally take a toll on health; although, most of these effects are gradual and experienced over the course of time”.

Eating too much junk food affects the part of brain that is linked to learning, memory and mental health.

“Playing loud music with earphones or headphones, placing the volume of your earphone or headphone at full volume can permanently damage your hearing, it can also cause brain problems involving loss of memory or inability to remember things easily, and loss of brain tissue in your later years, this is most likely because the brain has to work so hard to understand what’s being said around you that it can hardly store what you’ve heard into your memory”.

Because the body was made to move and the longer you remain unmoving and inactive it becomes more likely you are going to suffer from diseases like diabetes, heart diseases, stroke, dementia and high blood pressure which can all negatively affect the brain in the long run. “You don’t have to start high intensity workouts or start running marathons, just take a walk around your house more often or engage in an activity that gets you moving”.

Apart causing lung problems, smoking can also shrinks the brain, it makes the memory worse, makes one more forgetful and leads to problems like heart disease, dementia, diabetes, stroke, high blood pressure, lung cancer etc.

Overeating can lead to obesity which has been linked to different brain problems.

Staying indoor or in the dark for a long period, for better brain health it is important to expose yourself to natural light as often as you can as this will help prevent depression and keep your brain working well. “Staying in the dark or without natural light for prolonged periods, can slow your brain and cause a decline in the brain”.

Covered your head while sleeping will reduce your intake of oxygen during the night and while sleeping, one cannot feel the light-headedness or air deprivation, it also increase your risk of inhaling excess carbon dioxide. Share
